Taurus 709 Slim Pistol Review

In this part of my review, I show what you get when you purchase a Taurus 709 Slim pistol, document the "as received" condition for my own purposes and give my first impressions on this single stack 9mm pistol.

The video below is my Youtube version of this part of the review which will give more commentary that just this page, but make sure you also checkout the high definition photos further below.

The pistol comes boxed as shown below.

The end of the box has the stickers shown which provide the following information.  In my case, I purchased this pistol on a Black Friday sale and got it for $199.95 which I consider to be a great price compared to an MSRP of  $301.52.

  • Model Name: PT709 (also identified as 709FS at their website)
  • Order Number: 1-709031FS
  • Barrel Length: 3.3"
  • Caliber: 9mm
  • Capacity: 7-Shot
  • Serial Number: Shown
  • USC Code: 7-25327-61066-3

The contents were:

  • One Magazine (inside pistol)
  • Two Key Rings with Lock and Sight Tool inside smaller "PH Factor" bag
  • Chamber Flag
  • Instruction Manual
  • Warranty Card
  • Sticker and two other pieces of printed material

These next photos document the "as received" condition of the pistol which was in great condition just like you would expect from a new firearm.  The only thing I was able to notice were some fine scratches at the top of the barrel chamber which are due to the slide sliding over the barrel when the slide shifts to the rear.  Also, remember that clicking on these or any other photos in my review will bring up a high definition image allowing you to see the finer details.

First Impressions

I arrived at the store about 5 minutes after it opened on the day starting their Black Friday sale and the store was packed.  My wife and I were probably about 30th in line at the gun counter and with other people filing in after us, so I didn't spend much time examining the pistol then.  I did look at it enough to have an impression positive enough to make the purchase, but it wasn't until I got home that I really had the time to look it over thoroughly and I can say I was very impressed.  The pistol felt good, build quality looked good, overall I liked the sight system (although the rear notch doesn't seem deep enough) and the trigger pull felt decent.  In my mind I was very pleased with the value I got with my purchase.
