UTAS UTS-15 Review

The UTAS UTS-15 shotgun comes boxed in an attractive box as shown below.

The end of the box had a label with the critical information about the UTS-15 shotgun such as:

  • Model: UTAS UTS-15
  • Gauge: 12
  • Finish: Black
  • SKU: PS1BM1
  • Serial Number: Shown
  • Made in USA

When you open the top of the box, the first thing you see is an impressively styled Owner's Manual and a layer of foam padding.

After setting the manual and padding on the top of the box, you see that the UTS-15 is packed in shaped foam as shown below.

Since this shotgun was provided to me for Test & Evaluation, I wasn't sure if any accessories would come with the shotgun and I was very pleased to see that they included all their accessories for my evaluation.

The items that I received in the box for this review were as follows:

Note that this package may represent some type of deluxe package and all the items listed above with "accessory" beside them may not be part of the basic package.

These next photos help me document the "as-received" condition of the UTS-15 shotgun.  The shotgun appeared to come in  new condition like you would expect.  There was an area in the upper right corner of the ejection port where it looks like some hand working of the polymer parts was required to get the proper fit so the ejection port cover will close properly.

First Impressions

My first impressions were nearly the same as the employees at the gun store (Hi Caliber) where they do my transfers... Wow, that's cool!  As they were doing my transfer, I soon had a few people wanting to take a look and asking questions like "what is that?"  I actually heard one kid say "Is that a bazooka?"  I gave them a little description, let them take a look, finished my transfer and was excited to get it home so I could start my detailed study of the UTS-15.  Two things did stand out immediately.  When I shouldered the shotgun, it was clear that the UTS-15 had a short length of pull and it seemed a little heavier than the advertised 6.9 pounds.  Since it had the laser/light unit already installed, the additional weight seemed to make sense.
